Silver Side Table

This really was a nice little table when I found it. It's in perfect condition, but you know that saying about not being able to leave well enough alone? Yah, that's me. It isn't an antique and it wasn't expensive, soooo...you know I had to paint it!!

I don't know if anyone else out there experiences this, but I saw a a great dresser painted in antique silver and just could not stop thinking about it. So, I decided I would experiment on this table. Well, it totally did NOT turn out like the picture in my head. I let it sit in my shop for a little while trying to figure out why I wasn't happy with it. Then I realized it wasn't the table I wasn't happy with it, it was just out of my "box". :)

Actually, the table is pretty awesome, it's just not the look I normally do. :)

So, I am still looking for a bombay chest to do my antique silver on and in the meantime here is my little shabby/industrial (yes, it is the "new" thing! lol) looking table!

 Before

After

It was so out of my box I didn't even know how to stage it! ;)

I used a specialty paint by Martha Stewart called polished silver.  It only took one heavy coat--great coverage and it flowed out really nice.  I've been really happy with her line of paints.  And, it really does look like metal (I don't know why I thought it wouldn't).   Then I glazed it with the same glaze I use on my peacock blue pieces (Black Coffee by MS).  It toned it down a little, but not as much as I thought it would.

I actually love how the dents that were in the original finish add to the look of it being a little banged up.

color = polished silver by Martha Stewart
glaze = black coffee by Martha Stewart
top color = Stock black in All Surface Enamel by Sherwin Williams

Burgundy Night Stand

I noticed that last week was craft week on my blog! :)  Not that I mind that, but I actually have been working on furniture, too!  Sometimes I get caught up and it comes and goes before I can take pics of everything, or sometimes what I have to take pics of is too big for me to move by myself (which was the case this week cuz Craig was in AZ and wouldn't come home to hepl me! pshhh...I  know, I know I need to hire some muscle man to stand around my shop and be at my beck and call....hmmm, not one of my worst ideas ;) ).  Anyway.....

My client brought me this cute little night stand to update. It was looking a little worn. She asked if I could do it a deep burgundy color--something new for me! :)

Confession (don't you just love these?).  Sometimes I dread when someone wants something a shade of red.  Not because I don't love red(s) (because I do!), but because it takes so many stinking coats!  This one wasn't so bad at 3.  The color was a little too purply for me, so I stained over it in Ebony by Minwax.  I love how stain makes any color look a little richer, and it certainly did on this!

Love this detail around the top edge and the curved drawer tops.

Well, I'm off to finish another little table.  I painted it silver! :0

New Look (again!) and a New Button

For someone who doesn't do well with change I sure change my mind a lot! :)

I liked my old header, but I wanted to try something a little different so I'm going to go with this for now! :) It's even Ania approved (and that's saying something because she is a critic at heart!).

I also changed my button and hopefully the code works now. If not, please let me know.

I wanted to say thank you to my friend, Stacy, for the quote on the header.  I saw it and fell in love with it!  It helps me be brave. I believe it's attributed to Sam Scott.

Banner

A little Thanksgiving craft while watching the game. :)

I absolutely love these cute banners--and the sky's the limit!

You can hang it on a mantel, across a shelf, a window, an old window, a hutch--and change them out with the seasons!  So easy!
