I'm a sucker for a lot of things (as my hubby will attest to!) and cute, little antique dressers are on that list. So, you can imagine, when I saw this dresser it was no exception. Even though it was a little rough I couldn't resist taking it home. I'm tellin' ya, when you're in the heat of the moment it's easy to overlook all those "little" things that can be fixed later....mmm hmmm...
She needed some minor repairs and guess what else? Yup! I had to peel veneer. Seriously? How do I make the same mistake over and over again?! Anyway, I'm always happy after the fact!
Before
The veneer was bubbly and cracking and when I touched it it just fell apart (apparently I overlooked this when I was buying it!) , so off it came...
I buy these cup pulls in bulk now. Love them!
This top was so rough that after I sanded it with 80 grit it still looked beat up. I knew I was staining it dark, so I hoped the stain would cover some of the imperfections. There are a few marks it didn't cover, but I like the character it adds to the piece. After all, I'm sure she lived a full first life and now she's on her second, so what can you expect?! :)
Just love this pale blue/gray.
I'm so happy with how it turned out, and now she's off to her new home!
Love it! Amazing what a coat of paint and some new hardware will do :)
ReplyDeleteI have a pair of vintage chairs {my downfall} sitting in my studio just waiting to have new life breathed into them!
Where is your shop? I am hoping maybe to swing by when we're up in GB for Thanksgiving :)
Michelle, I am in Shawano on Northridge Dr. :)

this came out great and i love the distressing. i removed veneer from a dresser top this weekend and my hand hurt SOOO bad for two days. i'm talking sleeping with an ice pack and heating pad for my hand and arm. the things we do to make furniture beautiful. your dresser came out awesome.
ReplyDeletePeeling veneer is my most detested job! I work in the same building as my husband (it's actually his shop that I have taken over part of-lol) and one of his employees walked in while I was doing this dresser. He said, "That looks like a good way to get splinters." Then I just smiled and showed him my bloody fingers. HATE veneer!
DeleteI have to admire a woman who buys her pulls in bulk! This dresser is lucky to have found you - she is beautiful!

ReplyDeleteBlessings,

Thank you Linda. :) When I say I buy them in bulk I mean every time I go into Hobby Lobby I buy every one they have! lol I wish I could just order a case of them!
DeleteSuper cute!! LOVE it! I had to peel the veneer off on my antique buffet. It was worth it in the end, but NO FUN!!! Took me hours!! I can feel your pain. I never see the boo-boos until I get home either! Luckily, my hubby enjoys fixing things so he is always in charge of that! Turned out beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Claire! You're lucky. When my hubby sees stuff like that he pretends he didn't see and quick walks the other way! ;)
DeleteStunning! You do awesome work as you know - some of my favorites :o)
ReplyDeleteI go right to yours everytime!
Thanks for sharing at the party!
