Before & Afters {parade of black}

Does anyone else feel like Monday should be renamed  can't-get-squat-done day??  Feel like I've been running all over and haven't gotten anything accomplished and the things I did accomplish were twice as hard as they should have been!

Anyhoo! :)

Last week was one of those weeks where I got a lot done, but not very many pics to show for it. :)  I was waiting on knobs so didn't post pics of some of the things I finished and then they were picked up (knobs to be put on by clients) and things have been moving in and out very quickly (good for me and my garage space, but not so great for blog posts!).

Here are a few small custom pieces I did.  I know they don't make for a very exciting post but their owners were happy!  Even after the last 2 years I am still surprised how paint has the power to transform!  Outdated oak and pine can become fabulous again!

The armoire is awaiting knobs and baskets for the inside because it's being repurposed as a craft cabinet!

I have an empire dresser I finished as well, but I think I'll give it its own post!

Have a great week everyone!

Chair Up-Cycle

I took my hubby furniture picking with me last summer and we stopped in at a favorite consignment shop of mine. I was browsing and saw this cute little chair. I asked him what he thought. He looked at the price tag and said, "Yeah, you should get it."

This might not sound like a big deal to you, but for him to give me an opinion is a big deal to me! :)  So, of course, I snatched this little chair up.  It actually was an experiment.  I just did this desk and my client told me she had a chair to go with it.  She told me to do whatever I wanted, so I asked her what she thought of cherry red.  She said, "Go for it!"  I wanted to see how the red chair would look with the desk, so I "practiced" on this one first (so I didn't screw hers up!).  I love how it turned out!

It would be perfect as an accent chair or in the garden with flowers on it.  Oh, I can't wait to plant flowers! :)

Sneak Peek Chair Makeover

Here's a little sneak peek at my upcoming project (hopefully it will be done tomorrow!).   I found the perfect chair to go with the desk I'm doing.  I went fabric shopping for the seat and as soon as I saw this fabric my vision for the entire project changed.  So, we'll see how it turns out (I'm excited!).   :)

I thought she was cute enough for her own post. :)

I knew the second I saw it, it was perfect for what I had in mind.

Such a sweet little chair for a girl.

Chevron Chair

This little chair was cute before, but a little dated. :)  Spruced her up with a fun yellow and this great chevron stipe fabric.  My client said her girls were shocked she was going from hunter green/peach to gray and yellow.  I love the color combo--very modern!

 Love the distressing.

(seat wasn't attached when I took these ;) )  I think she's a perfect pop of color and fun!

Enjoy your weekend!!!  :)

Chair redo

This cute little chair was gifted to Ania.  It needed a tiny makeover to go with her new room. :)

 Before

 After

Gave her a few coats of bright white and new fabric Ania (yes, I conceded what I wanted for what she wanted ;) ) picked out for the seat.  The old cushion was not foam and it was filthy as sin, but it was shaped.  Had to use a new piece of foam and I'm not sure I like how boxy it looks, but I think I'll leave it for now.

Loved the leaf pattern so I highlighted it by lightly dry brushing a dark turquoise over the white.

Yep, this is her favorite teddy. :)

 Just lightly distressed.

Love the turquoise with a pop of purple! So fun.

Chair redo

A friend wanted a makeover for this cute little chair so it would stand out a little more in her dining room.  It was funny because I noticed it right away (it has great lines!) but she thought the color was a little blah.  I consider this chair's paint job the equivalent of a little black dress. :)

 Before

After

I just love that black dresses up any piece of furniture.

I didn't sand all the old color off so it would show under the black.  I like how you can see just bits of the soft beige underneath.

sweet chair

A friend, who knew I was itching for a project, brought me this sweet little chair she found at a rummage. Since I was just getting my feet wet I appreciated starting with a miniature. :) I knew, as soon as I saw it, what I wanted to do with it--that doesn't happen very often. Loved having the chance to use a little color!

I'm just learning how to take pictures, too, and stink at it so forgive me--hope practice helps!

I love distressing, but the color was so beautiful I had a hard time roughing it up!

Doing the paper on the seat was another first for me. It gave me fits the night I was doing it, so I just washed my hands of it and left it on the table overnight. The next morning when I got up I was afraid to look at it, but it had dried completely flat and perfect! So, YES!, I believe in miracles!!!

Love how it turned out.
