Old Door

Cute 4 paneled door.  It had lots of layers of paint.  I ended up giving it a good sanding to get rid of any loose paint, but didn't take it down to the bare wood because I think texture is what gives an old door its charm.  It's going to be repurposed as a headboard for a little girl, so I wanted to keep it bright, but still make it feel a little worn.

Did the undercoat two shades lighter than the final coat to give it some depth when I distressed it. 

Yep, it's upside down in the pics.  That's how it was when I carried it over there and I was too lazy to give it a flip. :)

This is the original ceramic door knob.  Just needed a little cleaning up.  I love it!

Had such a hard time getting a pic that was true to the color.  It's a little brighter and a littler greener than this one. :)

I need to hire a photographer! ;)

Prettier in Pink

My client wanted to use this tiny table for a nightstand for her daughter.  It wasn't looking so great before (kind of an understatement ;) ), but with a little wood glue and a new coat of pink it's fit for a lovely young lady.

If you look close in the bottom left-hand corner you can see where a band-aid had been painted right into the top of the table. lol  This is some serious chippy paint....

I sanded it down to the bare wood and just started over.

I told myself I would never paint anything pink, but I'm really liking this little table.  ;)

Dining Table in White

This was a beautiful little dining set.  I really like the chunky turned legs on the table and chairs.  We decided to redo it in white and I love how it just pops in her kitchen now.  I didn't have room in my shop to take pictures so I asked her if we could take a few at her house, but I forgot my camera!  So, she took the pictures for me and was nice enough to let me boss her around a little to get a few shots--so a big THANK YOU--she's a sweet girl. ;)

Love the white against this mocha color with pops of red...so pretty.

Lightly distressed (see, I can restrain myself!).

The top is actually a laminate so I used an adhesion primer and let it cure a little longer between coats.  Then finished with 3 coats of poly.  Was really happy with how the finish turned out.

Cute Side Table

This little table was wood.........painted to look like wood....hmmmm.  It was cute before, but I'm really liking it in black.

It looks like wood!  It was actually a buttery yellow brushed in a dark orange.

 I only scuff sanded this because I wanted that orangey tone to come through when I distressed it.

 I really like the original hardware on this.  So glad I didn't paint it.

 I knew this table was going in my client's bathroom so I covered the paper in contact paper so it would be water or toothpaste proof (it's removable, too). :)

Someone told me this week that pictures just don't do the actual pieces justice.  I agree. This little table is so cute I just stared at it for a minute before I left my shop today. ;)

Grandma's Table

I have to admit this little table scared me!  It looked innocent enough--it was my client's grandmother's table and I knew it meant a lot to her--but it was rough!  Had to do some pretty major cosmetic surgery.  She wanted it taller (the legs had been cut off!) and it had some major veneer issues and a big crack in the front.  I didn't want to tell her I couldn't save it, so I employed my handyman and my tub of wood filler and fixed her up.

This is where I was scared...lol.  I sanded the top down because it had deep scratches, glued, clamped, and filled the crack and missing veneer on the front corner, and had Craig add new legs to the bottom (which are actually stair spindles cuz they were the only thing thin enough to match the existing legs).  She's not looking so great.

  K, I just have to say I found this book at a glorified consignment shop and fell in love with it!  It's actually a year book from 1921--absolutely adore the cover and binding.

Great little detail on the front.  

So happy another family treasure was saved. :)

Side Table

 I accidentally erased the before picture of this little table. You will just have to trust me when I tell you it was absolutely (if I wasn't being nice I would describe it as appalling, odious, abominable, horrendous, heinous....but since I am going to be nice...) unsightly. :)  It was dirty cream with hunter green stippling all over it with a hunter green, plywood "backsplash".  It had been painted (and not well) at least 4 times as far as I could tell.  When I saw it, it was one of those pieces that I felt so bad for  I couldn't leave it there.  This was a mission of mercy!

  Maybe in 20 or 30 years someone will look at it and have the same thoughts about what I did to it. ;)

I do have a "before" after it was sanded down, but you can still see that amazing backsplash thingy.

It looks a bazillion times better like this!

After

I did try painting this yellow and HATED it!  It looked creepy.  (Yes, that's the best way to describe it, lol!)  I love how bright and happy it looks now! 

I sanded the top down, stained it, and then lightly sanded it in spots again just to give it a little more variation in the color.  I love how it turned out.  I kinda wish I would have hit it with a hammer or something to give it a few dings. ;)

 I've been dying to put these cute rosette knobs on something...she deserved it. :)  I also think yellow knobs would look amazing!  (I'm going to be on the lookout for some.)

 I only did one coat of the color and then distressed with a course sanding block when it was not-quite dry.  As Ania would say, "Easy peasy."

 Oh, how I love this color!!

 This just made me happy today. :)

If you don't have a place for a pop of color in your house it would be so perfect as a
 potting bench or in the garden, too!

Reproduction of Antique Wash Basin

Sometimes I feel like I have to justify myself a little, so I will tell you this is not an antique.  :)  It's beautiful and it's unique, but it's only a reproduction. So, I didn't feel too badly about painting (and distressing the crap out of) it.  I've been wanting something different for the corner of my porch and I wanted something I could put flowers in, so this fit both needs...wants...needs...whatever. :)
