Silver Side Table

This really was a nice little table when I found it. It's in perfect condition, but you know that saying about not being able to leave well enough alone? Yah, that's me. It isn't an antique and it wasn't expensive, soooo...you know I had to paint it!!

I don't know if anyone else out there experiences this, but I saw a a great dresser painted in antique silver and just could not stop thinking about it. So, I decided I would experiment on this table. Well, it totally did NOT turn out like the picture in my head. I let it sit in my shop for a little while trying to figure out why I wasn't happy with it. Then I realized it wasn't the table I wasn't happy with it, it was just out of my "box". :)

Actually, the table is pretty awesome, it's just not the look I normally do. :)

So, I am still looking for a bombay chest to do my antique silver on and in the meantime here is my little shabby/industrial (yes, it is the "new" thing! lol) looking table!

 Before

After

It was so out of my box I didn't even know how to stage it! ;)

I used a specialty paint by Martha Stewart called polished silver.  It only took one heavy coat--great coverage and it flowed out really nice.  I've been really happy with her line of paints.  And, it really does look like metal (I don't know why I thought it wouldn't).   Then I glazed it with the same glaze I use on my peacock blue pieces (Black Coffee by MS).  It toned it down a little, but not as much as I thought it would.

I actually love how the dents that were in the original finish add to the look of it being a little banged up.

  2. Ha ha!!! I love that you were at a loss to stage it!! I'd have to raid my husband's industrial style office to stage it! I think it turned out great!! Here is something I've realized... People LOVE the pieces I don't like! So, just because you don't love it, doesn't mean it won't sell! In fact, it might sell before everything else!! Plus, like you said.. it is the style right now!! Love it!! Hugs!!!
