A quick before and after this morning....
This poor dresser has been sitting in my shop for ages. It was sold for a while, and then it wasn't....you know how that goes (or maybe I'm the only one that happens to?). Anyway, I finally got around to pulling it out. I thought it would be a quick redo, but the thing had other plans for me!
I wanted to do something a little different with it, so I painted the top two drawers a different color and hated it. Then I thought maybe I didn't like it because it wasn't distressed yet, so I distressed the heck out of it and hated it even more. Then I repainted the whole thing white (originally I had stained the top a medium tone) and put some white hardware on it. I hated it. Then I painted the top black and left the white hardware on and it wasn't so bad, but I still didn't like it. Then I changed out all the hardware and this is what I had.
I think the reason I had such a hard time with it is because of the clean lines. I love the lines of antique pieces and am not really into the mod 70's stuff, but in the end I think this is a good look for her. :)
Before
Check out the pulls!!
I was so tired of it by the time I was done I just pulled her to the side of my shop where I work and snapped a pic (hence the ugly wall and floor!).
After
Nothing seemed to fit her so well as a classic look of black and white. I've realized doing this that we all don't have the same taste. She may not be my favorite piece, but I'm sure somebody will love her!!
Have a great weekend!
Sometimes it is worth taking the long way around, this ended up to be awesome and that's what counts right? You did great job!

I know I love her! I think she turned out great!
ReplyDeleteShe looks so much better. 70's furniture, well what can I say. It was a time period after the hectic, crazy 60's. lol You did a great job, the white with wonderful black pulls looks so much better. Kinda disguises what she was. Good call.
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Pat's day
I think you found the perfect look! It's great! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I have seen a lot of dressers like this on Craigslist and look past them but you have changed my mind. Great job!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I'm like you, I like the antique pieces better and have a hard time with pieces that don't appeal to me. I'm sure it will sell quick though! :)
ReplyDeleteShe gave you a hard time, but I think its because she wanted to be white and black. She looks awesome now. The crisp white and black touches suits her clean lines! Good thing you did'nt give up!:)

ReplyDeleteWhat type of paint did you use on this dresser. I have the full set two dressers men’s &ladies and two nightstands all the same. And loved this updated idea.
