Cabinet Makeover & Country Chic Paint

Someone asked me for advice on if she should paint a certain piece of furniture she had.  She also asked if there was ever anything I refused to paint.  There hasn't been anything yet! :)
I probably wouldn't paint anything that was really detailed/hand carved, old, and in good shape (but those are few and far between so I think I am safe!).   BUT, I do think twice about taking pieces off of an antique (like drawers, doors, detailing, etc).  When I went to pick this little cabinet up I thought it was an antique (from the pictures), but it wasn't.  I was so relieved because I had plans! :)  I'm guessing it's from the 80's and the finish was rough.
I've been wanting to do an open cabinet, so I decided to remove the doors for display.  So glad I did!

 Before

I received an email from Rosanne @ Country Chic Paint (you can also find them on FB here) asking me if I would like to try their new chalk paint products and if I would be willing to do a project and share about my experience.  Well, of course, I would!  She asked me to pick two colors and they would ship them to me.  I was so excited and couldn't wait to get them!  Well, when the package arrived this was what was in it!  I couldn't believe it-it was like winning the lottery!  Yea me!!  Thank you so much Rosanne!

I knew this little cabinet would be the perfect piece to try my new paint on.  I chose the colors Bliss (which is a vibrant turquoise) and Elegance (which is a soft blue/gray).  I knew I wanted to do the main body in an antique white (and was kicking myself for not thinking of it earlier and ordering that color), but I wanted a bold color for the inside and drawer.  I decided to mix Bliss and Elegance in a 2:1 ratio.  They blended so well and had a very nice consistency.   I loved the color I got and was ready to get to work!

Chalk paint is so easy to work with and Country Chic Paint was no exception.  It went on beautifully and was easy to distress.  The drying time was fast (which you know is important to me cuz I can't wait to get on with it!) so the project went quickly.  One thing I just love about chalk paint is the depth of color when you wax.  I used the clear wax and watched the color come alive.  So pretty!

 After

It's so cute in person!  I'm doing my happy dance! :)

You can see the variation in color here.

You get such a nice, smooth finish when you sand.  It feels like butter!

I had to buy these knobs.  Do you ever feel like that when you see something and just know it has to be yours?  Well, I picked these up and designed the rest of the cabinet around them.

It's so easy to add rustic charm to your furniture with chalk paint.  I just can't tell you how happy I am with the Country Chic Paint line!

I added the wooden applique to the drawer to add a little visual interest and dark waxed it to give it some depth.

I never really jumped on the Chevron bandwagon (not saying I don't like it), but I couldn't resist this fabric and it was absolutely perfect, so in it went. ;)

What a fun piece!  Can't you just see it in a bathroom to hold linens, in a kitchen to hold pretty dishes, or in an entry way with some baskets on the shelves for odds and ends?!  Me too! :)

I just wanted to tell Roseanne and the gals at Country Chic Paint thank you for all the goodies and for giving me the opportunity to use and share their product!
