Antique Claw-Foot Desk

My client said he rescued this little antique desk from the dump!  I seriously can't believe what people will throw away--it has claw feet, c'mon!!  :)

He said it sat in his garage for years while his poor wife waited for him to fix it up for her. ;)  He found me through a mutual friend and asked if I would help him out as he wanted to give it to her for her birthday.  How sweet is that?

I had told him that I wasn't taking any more painted furniture, but I would make an exception for him. :)

As you can see it was pretty dingy and had a horrible paint job (sorry to whoever did it!).  I wanted to see what was under all that paint so I started sanding the top.  What luck--it was a beautiful piece of cherry!  Well, that made my decision a lot easier and I decided to bring the top back to its former glory. The rest of it was sanded down and repainted white (trust me--I asked myself many times why I was taking all the white paint OFF to just put it back ON!  But, I just couldn't live with all the drips and brush marks so off it came!).

Before

After

You know with a foot fetish like mine I just adore these!

Check out the curve on the top drawers.  I've never seen this before--the pulls where actually attached with dowels that fit into the holes.

Sprayed the original pulls with Oil Rubbed Bronze by Krylon.

Stained the top with Red Mahogany by Minwax and gave it 4 coats of poly.

Finished it with two coats of Varathane in semi-gloss.

I love her new look and hope the birthday girl is happy with it!! :)

Thank you Sarah @ Alderberry Hill for featuring this great little desk! :)

Meg over @ Nutmeg Place (isn't that such a cute name?!) featured it as well.  Thank you so much Meg!

  3. I live in PA and this is the second piece of furniture that you have done, that I have done too--how funny is that?
I painted mine a mustard yellow and stained the top.
The hinges on the top drawers were screwed in from the bottom on the angle

  7. What a sweet thing you did, and not just for the man who wanted it for a lovely gift... but for bringing this beauty back! Who would have thrown this gorgeous piece of furniture away? I only hope they see it NOW! You did a BEAUTIFUL job!! I have a question for you...you used a spray - Oil Rubbed Bronze by Krylon on the pulls, would you recommend this or would it hold up on door knobs? Our house is not that old, but it has nice knobs, just need to be painted...would this work or do you know what would???

  20.  Nowadays, many women and men are dying to feel in their own skin what this practice can offer. But, like all fashions, it is sometimes done badly and quickly, eventually disappointing the person or, even worse, provoking serious physical and psychological consequences.  sub dom dating
