Still Available

I've had a few ppl ask me what I have right now.  Not much.  My room is full of furniture waiting to be picked up (end of March), so I have no room for any new pieces right now (haven't really had time to look, either!).  Starting in April, hopefully I'll have some new things.  In the meantime, this is what I have left.

Hutch

I've been wanting to do a hutch for a while now, so when a friend said she had one I was so excited!  And better yet, she wanted to do part of it green!!  So, here's a big THANK YOU to Laura for helping scratch a little of that apple green itch I've been having! :)

Antique Vanity

I have great friends.  This vanity was taken from a dental office that's being remodeled.  The owner asked if anyone wanted it and my friend said, "Well, I don't, but I know someone who would!"   Lucky me! When I popped the back off to take the mirror out the back of the mirror was stamped with Jan 17, 1924-- made by Windsor Furniture Company out of Chicago.  Before you yell at me for painting it, it was pretty rough (looked like someone had repeatedly stabbed it with a screwdriver) and the insides had been replaced at some point...so I didn't feel too badly about doing my thing. :)

Wow, you can totally see all of my mess (actually, only part of it is my mess!) and I almost forgot to take a before pic cuz I was so excited about this one. :)

some fingernail polish. :)

Waterfall Dresser

Ok--little moment of honesty here.  I don't always like everything I do. ;)  I'm not a big fan of waterfall style furniture--just a little too retro for my taste.  But, that's the fun part about doing this is I don't have to like it!   :)  This dresser was already white and she wanted to keep it white, but wanted more of that vintage feel.  I am completely thrilled with how it turned out and might be just a teensy bit converted. :)

This is the not-so-pretty part of painting....It had been painted several times before with an oil paint.  I sanded most of it down to the bare wood, but only lightly sanded the sides  (thought a few left over brush marks would add to the look we were after).

After

I love how the glaze and the distressing picked up all the imperfections of this piece.

Who says all the hardware has to match??   I love the vintage feel of the knobs and the contrast of the knobs and the pulls.  The hardware adds so much to this piece (I wasn't really feelin' it until all the hardware was on!).

Dresser makeover

This little dresser is being used as a dresser and a tv/gaming console.  My friend's son wanted to go black, so black it is. :)  Not many pics--was getting dark.

Before

It was cute before, but needed a (small) makeover.  Since it was going black I sanded it down to the bare wood (mostly to get rid of previous brush marks and so the white wouldn't show when I distressed it) and then primed, painted, and clear coated.

Pedestal Desk

I have this friend who was recently at an estate sale and saw a desk he thought I would like.  Long story short, he was too busy talking :), missed the bid on the desk he wanted, and accidently bought one he didn't.  The desk he bought was pressed board and he figured I wouldn't want it.  I told him I would paint it for him (normally wouldn't paint anything made out of p. board, but I felt sorry for him ;) ) to see if it would help him sell it (see what guilt does??) and he said if I painted it he might want to keep it. 

O.k., this baby was rough!  Chunks were missing, not much I can do about that.  The "finish" was missing in spots and I was a little worried about how this would turn out.  Anyway, here's the before...

Oh, it also had a fun little design on the front the he informed me was "ugly", so I filled it, although it took me 5 times, cuz nothing would stick to the pressed board very well....won't ever attempt that again.  I think my hair is a little thinner now...

After

Seriously, paint can hide a multitude of sins!  I primed it well--giving it a few light coats so it didn't get too wet.

Lightly distressed the edges and sealed with poly to make sure the particle board wasn't exposed.

Where there were "chunks" missing I just didn't distress there, so it wouldn't draw attention to it.

Included this shot so you could see where the pressed board was raised on the front edge a little (must have gotten wet previously).  I just lightly sanded and made sure this spot was primed well.  While you can't smooth these spots out they blend in when you paint.  The rest of the top turned out very nice.

Kept the original hardward (which had a hideous finish on it) and sprayed black--looks 100x's better!

primer = Painter's Touch (ok, I just have to say I absolutely LOVE this stuff!!  Love how it comes out of the nozzle and it has a smooth, chalky finish.)

color on body = Greek Villa SW

color on top = Enamel in stock black (low luster) SW

poly = Varathane in semi-gloss (Love this one too.  It's actually a floor finish and I get it at my local hardware store.)
