I seem to be on a french kick lately. There's just something about the soft colors and the worn feel that I love.
This buffet had been collecting mass amounts of dust in my shop because I was back and forth on what to do with it. I would go to bed one night knowing exactly what I wanted to do and then would start on another project and by the time I would get back to it, would change my mind. This has been going on for 6 months! :s
Yesterday I saw it sitting by the wall and knew it was time to make up my mind. I'm not always a fan of waterfall style furniture, but it had great details that were lost in all that dark wood. I knew I wanted to lighten it up but I didn't want to go white again after the buffet I just finished. Then I remembered Mandie over @ Altar'd furniture did her homework and chose corresponding colors from Behr and Sherwin Williams for all the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint colors. I've always wanted to do something in French Linen but couldn't bring myself to buy another quart (cuz my birthday is over you know!) ;) of ASCP (and because I couldn't wait for it to come in the mail). So, I pulled up her chart, found the right color, and the wheels just started turning.....
Before
Definitely vintage! :)
You know I LOVE it, but even Craig walked into the room and said, "Now that's cool." lol
I only scuff sanded because I wanted to keep the dark finish under the lighter colors (if you use a heavy grit you can end up taking off the previous stain as well). I didn't prime because I wanted the paint to come off flaky for that "chippy" look.
Then I distressed with a paint scraper, which I have to say is so much FUN! I knew I wanted it heavily distressed so I just wasn't too concerned about how any of the paint came off. It was so liberating! lol :) I adore that it is so random and imperfect!
And, I love these knobs from the Paris Gray dresser I did. I just happened to have two in my stash--perfect!
I lined the drawers with a neutral ticking.
btw--it's a french poem on the drawer fronts....my close-up didn't turn out because my camera card is full (imagine that!). ;)
I wish I had a place for this one cuz it would be staying with me!! Sadly, I don't so it is

Stacey of Embracing Change
Thanks Stacey. :) Sorry to link up so many projects this week! I actually committed to doing a craft fair and the week before the fair all of my pieces sold, so I had a week to get some more done. Last week was a busy week! lol The drawer fronts were actually done with a stencil I bought online--then distressed and stained over the top of it. I told my hubby if it didn't sell by Christmas I was keeping it for myself. ;)
DeleteHi I love this! Its amazing, I am finishing an armoire in the same type of style. I love this stencil. Would you mind sharing where you got it? Thank you!

DeleteVery pretty--thanks so much for sharing! I tried to feature your dresser but the photo kept giving me an error message. Good luck in future projects--hope to see more!
ReplyDeleteThank you Michelle. I wonder why??
DeleteYou know, sometimes I feel it's better not to paint over a nice wood grain, and I would have said that here, until I saw what you did with it! This is gorgeous, good job!
ReplyDeleteThank you Faye. I love leaving the tops natural if they have a nice grain to them, too. :)
DeleteThat looks amazing! I would love to have a piece like this in my home...my mother would love it even more :)

this turned out great! i always love it when people share the paint colors they use... that is so helpful. found you at savvy southern style.
ReplyDeleteThe wait was so worth the result. When I saw the before pic I cringed that it would be painted. Then came the after. I so love this piece - it looks as if it was supposed to look like this all along. Great job! (And I am in love with that stencil, too!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful transformation to your buffet. I liked the before, too, but I really like the paint choices and hardware and the lovely French stencil you used on it--lovely.
ReplyDeleteOh My God - this is incredible!!! Absolutely in love!
ReplyDeleteXOX

ReplyDeleteThank you so much to all of you!! I'm hoping I get to keep it! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful piece! I can completely understand why you want to keep it! Thanks for sharing at the All Star Block Party.
ReplyDeleteThis is just awesome! I'm always afraid to distress too much after putting all that work into getting the paint just right. This has convinced me to take a deep breath and scrape!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny that you say that! I have done around 200 pieces of furniture, distressed, 98% of them, and still get that little pit in my stomach every time I take that first swipe with the sandpaper or paint scraper! :)
DeleteThis turned out so cute! Thank you so much for sharing. I am featuring at my blog at 2:00 PST today!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! :)
DeleteJust beautiful!!! I have used those same knob...LOVE them! Now following! Blessings ~ Judy :)
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely gorgeous! I have an old waterful set and haven't loved it . . . but I think I'm about to make it very loveable. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work. Patti
