I love a stacked chest of drawers but have never been lucky enough to find one. Well, this one showed up on my doorstep (I traded for it) and I was so completely thrilled! It's such a unique piece of furniture and has great lines. I hemmed and hawed about this one, too. The day before I was going to paint it someone contacted me and said they wanted it! Yea! Love when that happens, because then I know I can do exactly what they want!
She came over and the ideas started rolling! I know this turned out even so much better than what I had envisioned for it.
Before
A few people said I should leave it as because it was so beautiful. Ummm....pics hide a lot. It had some issues and paint was the only way to fix them. BUT--even if it was in perfect condition I would have painted it! ;)
After
I happened to be wearing my green khaki jacket when she came over and she said, "That. That's the color!" I totally agreed. She wanted something masculine, but not black and this fits the bill perfectly!
It had such a beautiful top so I sanded it all down and stained it Espresso (yes, it is my new favorite!). It's so rich looking. And, we wanted it to look like two separate pieces so I sanded down the little ledge (all by hand :/ ) between the two pieces and stained it as well.
I love these pulls and just sprayed the screws two different colors to get them to match.
such great details!
I did have problems with bleed through on this one too. I think there's 8 different coats of various products on here. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate bleed through??
I still used the shellac, but it wasn't until after I had finished the drawers with 3 coats of paint and a coat of poly that it actually showed up (the next morning). Ugh! So I just sprayed the shellac over the poly, repainted the drawers, and gave it another coat of poly. That fixed it.

I think it's one handsome piece of furniture!! :)

I know it's not right to be envious or jealous but I am. I would so love to have a piece like yours. There was one very similar at Habitat in Grand Junction, CO but was way over what I could afford, ever. Beautiful piece, it seemed to be in original finish, somebody had taken very good care of it. It was as exquisite as yours. The color you chose for this piece was especially appropriate. Will go anywhere. How great you had your khaki jacket on. You are very talented at redoing pieces. Enjoy your talent. Happy days ahead.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful piece of furniture - love the color and the Espresso top(s).

Very interesting piece! Not too distressed, either, which I think would have detracted from the gorgeous detail. You did a fabulous job! :)
