Before & Afters {parade of black}

Does anyone else feel like Monday should be renamed  can't-get-squat-done day??  Feel like I've been running all over and haven't gotten anything accomplished and the things I did accomplish were twice as hard as they should have been!

Anyhoo! :)

Last week was one of those weeks where I got a lot done, but not very many pics to show for it. :)  I was waiting on knobs so didn't post pics of some of the things I finished and then they were picked up (knobs to be put on by clients) and things have been moving in and out very quickly (good for me and my garage space, but not so great for blog posts!).

Here are a few small custom pieces I did.  I know they don't make for a very exciting post but their owners were happy!  Even after the last 2 years I am still surprised how paint has the power to transform!  Outdated oak and pine can become fabulous again!

The armoire is awaiting knobs and baskets for the inside because it's being repurposed as a craft cabinet!

I have an empire dresser I finished as well, but I think I'll give it its own post!

Have a great week everyone!

Wardrobe

Ok, I must admit, I nicknamed this one "the beast".  It's absolutely, ginormously (don't you just love that word?!), HUGE!  It's over 6 feet tall and about 4wide.  Imagine the square footage of storage in this baby.  I love that it's a hand-made piece of furniture and that it has that feeling to it.  My hubby added shelves on the inside for her and I gave her some fun knobs to break up all that white.

Ania picked these out and I <3 them

This ended up being too big for my client's space so it is:

Armoire

One of my besties said she had this armoire she wanted to do and I've been wanting to try subway art, so I asked her if she was game.  Of course she was! Love her for that! :)  She was turning her old tv armoire into a craft cabinet, so it was the perfect guinea pig.

Before

It was a cute armoire just needed a little pick-me-up :)

After

I realized the right door was a little tilted in this picture, so it makes the words look a little off.  Just needed a little tweaking. ;)

So, this friend loves heavy distressing....a girl after my own heart.  I don't get to do that very often, so I was in seventh heaven!

I painted the doors a creamy white first, then used spray adhesive and heavy cardstock to stick the lettering on (next time I will use vinyl lettering, cuz this was a nightmare), but you live and you learn, right?  Then did two coats of the gray, distressed, and sealed.

The original hardware looked great on this new color!

There are a few things I would do differently next time, but for the first try I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

p.s.  I love that these words mean so much to her and now she has a reminder of the wonderful and important places in her life every time she wants to create something! :)

Armoire

I've been looking for an armoire for a while now.  When I saw this one I loved it (made an exchange to get it--thanks Amy! ;)  ).  I am in the process of redoing my room and wanted to lighten this piece up a little for what I wanted.

Before

After

I love how the white made it feel less bulky and the distressing showed off all the great details.

The old hardward was really heavy looking, so switched out for glass knobs on the top and replaced the lower handles with four white, distressed knobs.

The corners are my favorite part about this armoire!

Am really happy with the way it turned out, and it has a new home--mine! :)
