Headboard Bench in Peacock Blue

I bought this bench, pre-made, from an elderly gentleman who likes to tinker in his garage.  Lucky me!  The only thing wrong with it was the seat was made out of plywood and was in two pieces with all the screw heads showing.  Not good.

Once again, I enlisted the help of my handy man and told him I wanted a wood seat on it.  Luckily he is well connected ;) and got his hands on some hickory hardwood flooring. It's gorgeous and I knew the light colored wood, in it's natural state would look gorgeous against the rich peacock blue my client picked out.

BEFORE

This is after one coat of paint and in process of getting its new seat.   This is truer to the color than the pics below.  I'm not sure why my camera doesn't like to pick up the green in teal/turquoise.

 After

I'm a little sad you can't see the true color in these pics.  I ended up dark waxing it to really give this gorgeous color some depth.  It's so beautiful.

color = Peacock Blue from Walmart (color matched at Sherwin Williams)

I sanded the flooring smooth and gave it 4 coats of poly, making sure to sand in between coats.  Because it was raw wood the poly really raised the grain.  To get a smooth finish you should sand between coats.

She hasn't seen it yet.  Hope she likes it! :)

Country Primitive Side Table

A friend dropped off this little side table at my shop a few weeks ago.  I ignored if for a while because, truly, I had no idea what to do with it!  Meanwhile, I had ordered some milk paint online and it had come in the mail.  I've never used it before and wanted to try it out, but was also scared to try it on a big piece in case I didn't like it.  I also was at HL shopping for knobs the day before and found a cute little bird knob and bought it even though I had nothing to put it on.

Well, I thought, this would be the perfect little table to try the milk paint on and the color happened to compliment the bird knob I bought.  So, here's what I did with it...

 Before

I admit, I had a hard time seeing the potential. :)

The paint is from The Real Milk Paint company and the color is Peacock.  I absolutely adore the color!

When I mixed the milk paint and started painting with it I HATED it!  It went on so much differently than latex.  It was watery and clumpy....then about half way through my project I went and looked at the directions and discovered I TOTALLY didn't follow them!!  Well then.....So, I suppose I will actually follow the directions next time and give it another try!

I do love all the variation in the color.  It has a nice depth to it.

I just love this little birdie!  Perfect on here.

I thought it turned out pretty cute. :)  It sold already...so glad someone else thought it was cute, too! :)

Antique Peacock Side Table

If you know me at all you know I cannot resist a great pair of legs!  Well this little table has 3 pairs of great legs!  It was pretty rough when it came to my shop.  Parts were falling off and it needed some minor repairs, but (along with those fabulous legs) I  loved the shape of it and the inlay on the top.  I debated whether or not I should paint the top, but in the end I just couldn't do it! :)  I had so much fun painting this radio cabinet that I couldn't wait until I found another piece to do the same color.  I knew right away when I saw it that it was the one. :)

I sanded the top all the way down (but left some of the old stain on the edges because I like the way it looks when you restain it)  and stained it with Minwax in Dark Walnut, then gave her 3 coats of poly in a semi-gloss.  I just realized I covered up the inlay with all my "stuff".  Oops!  It is very unique and pretty... maybe I'll have to go back and take another pic.

This color is just so pretty--so much better in person, too.  I just stood there and stared at it for a minute (yes, I'm nuts!).

Check out all those yummy legs!

Antique Radio Table in Peacock Blue

I picked up this little ex-radio cabinet a few months ago.  I fell in love with the turned legs and the amazing details!  I knew I wanted to do something different with it, but I couldn't decide exactly what, so I sat on it for a while.  This week I had my "ah-ha" moment with it and couldn't wait to get it done (right in the middle of doing 3 other projects!).  I'm so glad I did and I couldn't be happier with it!

Before

After

It's gooorgeeeouus! :)
It's actually a little more green (a real teal) than this, but I could not get a pic where the color showed up true.

I painted it Peacock by Behr, distressed, and then glazed with Martha Stewart Metallic Glaze in Black Coffee.  I love that stuff!  It goes on and wipes off better than any other glaze I've worked with and it has this great subtle sheen to it.

These seriously make me swoon (you don't get faint over furniture??)  !!  LOVE them!!!

I had a hard time letting this one go!
