Repurposed Headboard

This is a headboard I had left over from a bedroom set I refinished.  I sold all the pieces separately, but didn't find a home for this guy.  I didn't know how well it would sell by itself so I decided to repurpose it.  And, two is better than one, so I decided to cut it in half!

I am loving chalkboards right now, and, with the insets, this was a perfect candidate!

I added these awesome hooks (perfect for keys!) I found at HL and the little embellishments on the side of the hooks.

It's got fun little details that give a lot of character. :)

Love the larger hooks on the turquoise one, too.  Great for hanging hats or scarves by the back door or to hang jewelry from in the bedroom.

These were fun and quick little Christmas projects.

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Mirror to Chalkboard

Quick post today.

I've had this mirror hanging around from a bedroom set I did a few months ago.  It's tall and I thought it would make such a cute chalkboard.  I simply took out the mirror and had Craig cut me a piece of 1/4 plywood to replace it.  I sanded it to smooth it, primed it, and then used two coats of chalkboard paint.

I love all the chalkboard art floating around on Pinterest right now, and with this size board the possibilities are endless!  <3!

Half way done with another week!  Unbelievable how quickly they go by!

Quote on the Stairs

Our stairwell needed some major attention!  We have a 1 1/2 story and the kids' bedrooms are the only rooms upstairs.  Anything I've put on the walls has long since been knocked off and broken, so the walls have pretty much been bare for the last year or so.

I wanted something easy and inexpensive (so I wouldn't be upset when it "accidentally" got ruined) for the walls and I wanted something that was meaningful for my kids.

I saw this saying and immediately knew it was a message I needed for me and a message I wanted my kiddos to see everyday.

I just love that this will be the first thing they see when they come downstairs in the morning and the last thing they will see when they go to bed at night.

Sometimes I think we believe if we aren't doing something huge all the time then we're not doing anything worthwhile.  That's just not true.  It's the small things that matter the most, especially when they are done with love.

I just printed letters (using different fonts for every word and about 5" tall) and ran them off on scrapbook paper (you could use book pages) and then mounted them on brown craft paper and white cardstock (with double-sided tape).  Then I attached them to the wall with this stuff...

I think I will add a small book page wreath on the left of the "with" and a picture of Christ off to the right.  Stay tuned for updates! :)

Drawer Planter Boxes

About a month ago I turned a cute little antique bench into a container garden.  It was pretty popular and I had requests for a few more.  I happened to have another little table so I transformed it as well.

Then I had a problem because I still had someone who wanted one, but I didn't have any more tables.  So, I was looking around my shop and saw these two drawers I had stashed away from a previous dresser that I had turned into a media cabinet.  I thought--Hey, that'll work! :)

I enlisted the help of my handy man (again!) and he helped my vision become reality (again!).
Thanks honey! :)

I had a few of these ?? that someone dropped off for me a long time ago. I've been saving them as I knew they would come in handy some day! ;)  We (uh hum...he) cut them down to the length I wanted them--pretty easy peasy.  I was fortunate they had the square ends on them to make attaching them to the drawers easier.

Here's one of the drawers.  Um, yeah, it wasn't lookin' too great.

We reinforced the bottom of the drawer with a piece of plywood cut to the size of the drawer and then I lined the inside with this plastic tray so when the pots were watered the water wouldn't be sitting on the drawer bottoms.

Then we cut the holes with a 4" hole saw in another piece of plywood for the top.  Fortunately, I had all these materials around already, but I know you can buy similar shaped legs at Home Depot, and you could use whatever wood you had lying around (most people have a stash somewhere!).

=============================================

And, here they are all put together and made pretty!

I love how they turned out--even more than the tables I think.

I've been wanting to use yellow knobs on something and these were just perfect.  They remind me of the sun (which we have seen far too little of here in WI!).

Just love turning trash (or a stash) into treasure!
