Khaki Green Stacked Chest

I love a stacked chest of drawers but have never been lucky enough to find one.  Well, this one showed up on my doorstep (I traded for it) and I was so completely thrilled!  It's such a unique piece of furniture and has great lines.  I hemmed and hawed about this one, too.   The day before I was going to paint it someone contacted me and said they wanted it!  Yea!  Love when that happens, because then I know I can do exactly what they want!

She came over and the ideas started rolling!  I know this turned out even so much better than what I had envisioned for it.

 Before

A few people said I should leave it as because it was so beautiful.  Ummm....pics hide a lot.  It had some issues and paint was the only way to fix them.  BUT--even if it was in perfect condition I would have painted it! ;)

 After

I happened to be wearing my green khaki jacket when she came over and she said, "That.  That's the color!"  I totally agreed.  She wanted something masculine, but not black and this fits the bill perfectly!

It had such a beautiful top so I sanded it all down and stained it Espresso (yes, it is my new favorite!).  It's so rich looking.  And, we wanted it to look like two separate pieces so I sanded down the little ledge (all by hand :/ )  between the two pieces and stained it as well.

I love these pulls and just sprayed the screws two different colors to get them to match.

such great details!

I did have problems with bleed through on this one too.  I think there's 8 different coats of various products on here.  Have I ever mentioned how much I hate bleed through??
I still used the shellac, but it wasn't until after I had finished the drawers with 3 coats of paint and a coat of poly that it actually showed up (the next morning).  Ugh!  So I just sprayed the shellac over the poly, repainted the drawers, and gave it another coat of poly.  That fixed it.

I think it's one handsome piece of furniture!! :)

Antique Night Stand in Overjoy

A friend dropped this cute little night stand off for me and said it belonged to her great grandmother so it has sentimental value.

The poor little thing was in pretty rough shape with lots of peeling veneer (and some majorly stuck drawers!).  I ended up peeling the veneer off the drawer fronts but was able to save the top by gluing it back down.  It's not perfect, but I love that I was able to preserve part of the original piece.

She requested a fun color and I think it's perfect for this piece!

I carefully sanded the top down and stained it in Espresso (after I filled the crack in the back with stainable wood filler).  You can still see the crack, but I thought it actually blended pretty well.  It's a beautiful top.

I love the original pulls and the patina they have so I left them as is.  I wanted to keep as much as the original stand as possible.

 Another cute leg!

The cheery yellow looks so great over the dark finish that was already on it.  I like how the distressing breaks up all that yellow so it's not too overwhelming.

I'm so glad this piece that has been hanging around for so long will now be used and loved (and seen!).
