Sweet Pea {dresser redo}

Just a quick post of a custom redo.

This was a simple highboy with clean lines. My client wanted white but with a pop of color. This is one that hardware makes all the difference!

A FB friend found this sweet little hutch and told me about it. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it! Usually I shy away from hutches even though I love them because they are just so BiG! Not everyone has room for one which makes selling a little harder. This one, on the other hand, is just perfect! Love the details and the pulls!

I knew as soon as I picked it up that this one was going to give me major issues with bleed through! Look how red the finish was!

So, I started right away by giving it a coat of Shellac. I use this one and love it. This stuff has seriously kept me from pulling all of my hair out on many occasions! Better than Kilz for blocking staining. And it can be used in between coats of anything too. So, I sprayed, painted, looked for problem spots, waited for the paint to dry, and spot treated those areas again with the Zinsser. Perfect.

I used a warm vanilla color on this one that I mixed myself. It's very soft and a little darker than in the pics. I just wanted to touch it the whole time I was painting it. :)

I'm always looking for pulls like this on furniture and never seem to find them. I was jumping up and down (on the inside of course) when I saw these! I just gave them a coat of Oil Rubbed Bronze.

I found this fabric at Hancock Fabrics and knew it was going on the inside of this one! I can't say no to frenchy typography!

I love the detail molding on the doors and just lightly distressed them so they wouldn't get lost.

Black Empire Dresser

This is the original dresser I went to pick up where I also found this one and this one. I have a hard time passing up an empire!

I already had a vision of what I wanted when I picked it up. Almost as soon as I got it home I prepped it (sanded it all down and stained the top dark) and had it sitting on my driveway. I had a client (can I just say I love meeting new people! She is awesome and I probably never would have met her had it not been for furniture!) stop by to drop off (or pick up, can't remember now!) a few other pieces and she saw this one sitting there. She asked if she could have it, and I said "Sure!" But, then had to ask the inevitable question-"What do you want done with it?" The whole while dreading in my heart because I knew I wouldn't be able to do what I wanted. :( She said, "Black." Double :( :(.

BUT

I'm so happy with the way it turned out! It's such a stately piece and perfect for the TV stand she's going to use it as. It fits so well in her home! Hubby said it looks better black anyway. lol

And, happy ending because I found another dresser almost immediately that I'm going to do what I had intended for this one. :)
